Eightville Apartments: Sukhumvit, Bangkok

I am a firm believer that funky does not necessarily need to mean expensive, and the Eightville Apartments in the other “City of Angels”, Bangkok, is a good example. Located down the end of Sukhumvit Soi 8 it is far enough away from the noise and chaos of Sukhumvit. Within a 10 minute walk (or complimentary golf buggy ride) to the nearest BTS station, Nana, it puts the city at your disposal. The MRT is only a further five minutes walk from the BTS.

I decided on the Studio apartment with balcony and was impressed with the modern facilities and layout of the apartment. In-room amenities include a huge bathroom, large fridge and a small kitchenette (sink, kettle and microwave only). The mattress is incredibly firm which I personally found amazing to sleep on, though I know its not to everyone’s liking.

The staff were warm and helpful and spoke good english and the free wifi had decent speed. Cable TV is also available, though there was not many English language selections. While I was there it was put on one of the music channels as background noise while myself and some travelling buddies sat out on the balcony. Once the balcony door was closed and the curtains drawn the room was sufficiently dark and quiet enough to help deal with a hangover.


The soi itself was convenient with a couple of 7-11s and some decent eateries plus your usual assortment of tailors, travel agents, massages and street vendors. There are also a number of restaurant/bars further down the soi which didn’t attract the seediness that you find in some of the other sois – I spent a couple of evenings at one playing pool with the staff from the hotel after they had finished work. A great night that I will remember for years to come!

Rates are between AUD$30-$40 p/night. The rates don’t include breakfast but I strongly recommend the breakfast at the Hotel Salil, not far away from the apartments.
