Abu Dhabi, home to the stunning Emirates Palace and Ferrari World, will later this year get a brand new attraction: a massive Water park. The latest drawcard is being built on Yas Island which is already home to Ferrari World, Yas Links Golf Course and a swathe of stunning hotels.

The theme park will have over 40 different slides, rides and attractions to keep everyone from the young to the old amused for a day out. The attraction will be built around a common theme of ‘Dana’ – a young local girl who is in search of a legendary pearl “ which brought prosperity to the people of her village.”

Mohamed Al Mubarak from Aldar Properties (which is Abu Dhabi’s real estate development and management company) said:

“We are particularly excited about the newest member of the Yas Island family – Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi will provide an important addition to the attractions of on offer. The water park pays tribute to the Emirati culture and heritage of pearl diving, and offers rides and attractions for every member of the family.”

Some of the mockups look stunning and will no doubt be a great spot to dump the kids whilst mum hits the shops and dad hits the Ferrari circuit. The only issue I can see (and am unsure from looking at the photos as to how this will be addressed) is the searing heat from the UAE in summer, and the damage this will cause to blotchy pink tourist skin. I don’t think I would be keen to lounge in the pool all day in scorching 42°C (118°F) heat. Perhaps I need to invest in a swim-burka?
