Air Asia is offering members of the facebook community the chance to fly on one of their Airbus A330s with all (or none) of your friends. The 303 seat aircraft will be departing Sydney on 2 November and return 5 November later this year. The prize will also include twin-share accommodation for everyone in Kuala Lumpur for the three nights.
In true Air Asia style, passengers will still need to pay for ancillary items such as food, inflight entertainment and drinks unless seated in one of the 12 premium seats onboard the aircraft. Passengers will also only be given the standard 15kg luggage allowance each (20kgs for those in premium seating).
Don’t despair if you don’t have 302 friends as the airline has promised to not sell seats to the general public meaning you and a just a few close friends could end up playing cricket or kicking a soccer ball down the aisles. I do pity whichever cabin crew are scheduled on to work these flights as a plane filled with my friends would be nightmare – they wouldn’t get very far into the safety demonstration without most of us talking over the top of each other, plus the jostling for position to sit in the premium or exit row seating.
The competition runs until 23:59pm (Sydney time) on 5 June 2012 with winners randomly drawn and announced the following day.
In related news Air Asia X’s CEO Azran Osman-Rani says that there have been over 100,000 bookings made since flights between Sydney and Kuala Lumpur were announced at the beginning of the year and are running at approximately 80% capacity. Osman-Rani also said that Australia is the airline’s most profitable country. Amid recent route cuts to Christchurch, Paris and London, the airline was looking to grow through increased frequency to existing destinations, Gold Coast and Perth, with Sydney and Melbourne potentially both getting double daily service. The airline is also strongly considering operating flights to Adelaide

Unfortunately the competition is now over, it was won by Julie Foster a 42 year old bookkeeper and mother of three. She will be taking 251 of her 'closest' friends including her hockey team, and daughters swimming club. The competition attracted about 12,500 entries involving approximately 1 million people over all.
