Library Hotel, New York
Nestled near Grand Central Station and the New York Public Library is one of the city’s most unique hotels. The Library Hotel is a 60 room boutique hotel on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, each of the ten residential floors is dedicated to a major category of the Dewey Decimal System and the rooms on that floor designed around a sub genre within the category.
The hotel caters to a mix of young and old, business types and the hip and nerdy crowd, drawn by the large reading room on the second floor, lined with floor to ceiling bookcases filled with classic and modern literature, and the complimentary wine and cheese in the evenings or fresh coffee and pastries throughout the rest of the day.
The rooftop floor plays host to three separate venues, the Writer’s Den comes complete with working fireplace and wraparound terrace and the Poetry Garden gives a place to sit and soak up the sun. Bookmarks Lounge turns into a rooftop bar offering stunning city views and literary inspired cocktails such as the Pulitzer and a Tequila Mockingbird.
The rooms are a little on the small side (though what rooms in New York aren’t) with standard rooms measuring 18 sq. metres, Deluxe rooms come in at just over 23 sq. metres, if you are lucky enough to snare one of the Junior suites (one per floor) you can stretch out in the 32 sq. metres of space and the King Bed covered in Egyptian cotton sheets. Rooms start from USD$239.00 and include free breakfast and Wi-Fi.
