Qantas to update ageing 767 fleet
Qantas announced that it would refit its fleet of 767′s with new cabins, seats and entertainment options.
The Qantas 767-300 fleet has been in desperate need of a refresh so this comes as welcome news to Qantas travellers. Those flying the epic 10 hour Sydney – Honolulu marathon would certainly be advocates for change on this Qantas workhorse.
Marc Newson has been bought in to design the interiors which in typical Newson style will be fresh and contemporary. The seats in business class unfortunately look like Jetstar Starclass Mark II – is this a freudian slip from ex-Jetstar CEO Joyce?
The seats will come dressed in leather upholstery with unique 70′s wooden panelling. I’m not the biggest fan.
And as announced earlier this year, Qantas will bust out the iPads for free in both cabins free of charge. The tablets will connect to the Q streaming system which will deliver Qantas controlled content. This naturally has a cost saving benefit for the airline whilst making it look cool and hip to travellers. I’m not easily convinced but I look forward to trying it out in the flesh.
The fleet will be upgraded from October. For more information and pics, head over to AusBT which has all the goss and if you want in depth analysis, head to Plane Talking.
