American Airlines launches new ‘Captain America-chic’ livery
American Airlines today launched its sexy new logo and aircraft livery, ditching its classical brand for a modern ‘Americana’ identity.
The airline has used its current theme since the late ‘60s with its aircraft sporting the same look ever since. “We thought it was time to update the look – it’s been 40 years” Thomas Horton, CEO of American Airlines said.
The airline is widely recognised for its polished metallic livery however changes were required due to the new composite materials used in the construction of soon to be delivered Boeing and Airbus aircraft.
The new design was proudly launched overnight on one of the airlines 737-800’s in Texas, with the first repainted long haul 777-300 aircraft taking to the skies at the end of January. The rest of the fleet will progressively receive the new paint job over the next five years (not quite a simple feat when the carrier has 200 aircraft).
I find the new livery quite dashing – very patriotic – and oozes Tommy Hilfiger in a Hampton’s-prep kinda way. I certainly look forward to checking out these new birds on the tarmac.
Do you like the new American Airlines livery?
