FlymeFunky has heard whispers that Jetstar may soon commence Cairns – Guam services.
Whilst details are far and few between, it appears that operational preparations are under way to commence services to the island nation with fares to be announced within a matter of weeks, and flights in the air not too long after.
United Airlines (formerly Continental) is the only carrier flying flying the route twice weekly on a 737-800 aircraft with a four hour flight time. Whilst Guam typically doesn’t immediately spring to mind for Aussies planing a tropical getaway, this could all change if Jetstar challenges United’s monopoly on the route.
Guam is a territory of the United States and is the largest island of Micronesia, located (roughly) between Papua New Guinea and Japan. The economy is supported by tourism and ongoing income from the US military. For more information, check out Wikitravel for essential info.

Interesting. With Guam as a destination, Jetstar could theoretically bounce an A320 up to Okinawa or over to the Philippines.
They certainly could! I’m sure Jetstar Asia would create some connections through to Asia, given Guam’s popularity with the Japan/Philippines markets.
