British Airways has joined the superjumbo club with flights commencing in mid October using the first of the airline’s 12 new Airbus A380′s. British Airways has announced Los Angeles and Hong Kong as its inaugural destinations for flights with the new aircraft.

BA Economy A380

469 passengers across four classes will be able to experience the new aircraft, with 303 World Traveller (Economy) seats split across the main and upper decks, the main deck has passengers in a 3-4-3 configuration, while the upper deck (which would be the pick for the savvy traveller) is configured 2-4-2. World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy) is located on the upper deck arranged in a 2-3-2 format with a total of 55 seats available.

Club World (Business Class) is also split over two decks with with 53 seats (the seat map however shows 56 seats) on the upper deck and a further 44 seats on the main deck. Seating is arranged 2-3-2 and is in an alternating backwards/forwards format. British Airways has advised that the seating is an unpated version of the current Club World seating found on its Boeing 777 and 747 fleet.

BA Business A380

14 First Class mini suites are located in the nose of the main deck and arranged in a 1-2-1 forward facing configuration., granting the much sought after direct aisle access to all occupants.

BA First A380

British Airways is on track to be the first airline to have both the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 787 in its fleet with the Dreamliners expected to enter the fleet mid-year pending FAA clearance. If you can’t wait until October to try out the new A380 the aircraft with be used in training mode on short intra-Europe flights before switching to the trans-Atlantic route.
